The Federal Trade Commission requires franchised automotive dealers to implement a written Identity Theft Prevention Program (ITPP) under the direction of an appointed Corporate compliance Officer and UPDATE THEIR PROGRAM PERIODICALLY (effective December 31, 2010).

 In addition, the dealer found not complying may be open to civil action initiated by the individuals whose nonpublic personal information has been compromised  The negative press stemming from the fraudulent use of nonpublic personal information impacts floor traffic and potential customer interest to visit or associate with your dealership.
